The Hunger Coalition sponsors a Hunger Walk each year to raise funds for community agencies especially ones with food pantries or agencies that serve meals. Our funding is used to provide extra proteins, milk, healthy cereals, and light syrup fruits. Betty, Marie, and Bonnie represented us this year at the Hendersonville walk. Last week Carol Romine and Pat Jollie headed up the Hunger Walk at ArdenWoods. Word on the street is that a good time was had by all at both locations.
The Mills River Publix donated over 750 pounds of meat, produce, pastries and bread. Flavor First donated five cases of tomatoes. The St. Luke's Gleaners gleaned apples and tomatoes from the Mills River Area farms. City Bakery and Bimbos donated bread. St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville provided us with bags filled with donations of food for the pantry. We collected several bags of donated food items from our community. Thank you for taking the time to drop it off at the pantry.
Saturday, we welcomed 147 families representing 525 individuals. There were 10 new families representing 29 individuals. Thank you, volunteers and our Spanish and Ukraine interpreters for your assistance with shopping.
On behalf of our Pantry Board, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous food and monetary donations to our pantry. Your donations will make a significant impact on the lives of those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity.
