A shout out to Manna Food bank!  For the past many years, we received Manna deliveries twice a month. Kristen, our contact with Manna, encouraged us to order on the off-week, too.  The only "hitch" is you had to pick it up. Without hesitation, Doug offered his trailer for what we call the Mini-Manna Pickup. We usually order meat, produce, and eggs. Beginning this week, a calendar is posted for days and times for deliveries. On Big-Manna week, we usually have over 5,000 pounds delivered and volunteers arrive around 8:30. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to get everything shelved. On Mini-Manna week, we receive less than 1,500 pounds. Volunteers arrive around 2:00 and work less than an hour. You don't need to sign-up...just surprise us with your presence!

On November 22, we will distribute our "Turkey Meal."   "Neighbors" will still shop for food. Just a reminder, we try and provide 3 1/2 days of food, or 11 meals. Thank you to Nativity Lutheran for the generous carts of cereal you donated this week!

Saturday, we welcomed 137 families representing 524 individuals. There were 14 new families representing 44 family members. We continue to need volunteers who can help with Spanish registrations. Once a month would be very helpful! Thank You Tom, Vickie, and Hillary for answering the call!

On behalf of our Pantry Board, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous food and monetary donations to our pantry. Your donations will make a significant impact on the lives of those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity.

The Lord’s Acre, FletcherOctober 28, 2025 – By Thanksgiving, in our two hoop houses, the field crops, collards, cabbage, and carrots will be harvested, and the rest will over-winter in these wonderful structures that are gifts of the Community Foundation of Henderson County and the Deerfield Foundation.

An Experiment - Mostly, we grow what folks who use the food pantry want to eat. Occasionally, we just have to play. Here is our latest experiment. This is the first head of purple sprouting broccoli growing in the hoop house. Sprouting broccoli keeps coming after picking the center head. We’ll see how long it goes into the winter. And, it’s pretty! (photo below)
