"Quiet on the Set!" Ready! Action! Bill from WLOS was at the Pantry on Tuesday morning videoing Chef Martha preparing three different recipes for the Carolina Kitchen. The aroma of her apple chutney permeated throughout the gathering room. Using items available to our "neighbors," she prepared mouthwatering Cajun Chicken Sliders, tasty Apple Chutney, and delicious Honey Garlic Green Beans. The recipes can be viewed on WLOS during the noon Carolina Kitchen segment over the next several weeks.
The St. Andrew Gleaners provided ten pails of apples for us this week. We are so appreciative of the variety of fruit and vegetables that have been gleaned for us this summer. Walmart has offered us some miscellaneous items like personal care products etc. that we place on the bonus rack on our landing for our neighbors. Our garden provided peppers. We will be picking collards on Thursday at 4:30 and continuing to plant lettuce. Over three hundred lettuce plants have been planted to date.
Saturday, we welcomed 126 families representing 497 individuals. There were 8 new families representing 31 family members. We continue to need volunteers who can help with Spanish registrations. Once a month would be very helpful!
On behalf of our Pantry Board, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous food and monetary donations to our pantry. Your donations will make a significant impact on the lives of those in our community.

The Lord’s Acre, Fletcher –What's growing in the garden? Fall is a productive time in the Lord's Acre. Collards will bear through November. Cabbage will be harvested late this month. Carrots and beets can be harvested through the fall and winter. Since the pantry no longer receives 125 clamshells of lettuce a week from a local hydroponic operation (they moved to Georgia), we are trying to up our lettuce game in the garden. We've planted 300 lettuces the last couple of weeks and have 700 more to plant in the next month, so that we can harvest through the winter. It's great to have volunteers who enjoy getting hands in the dirt!
