Save the Date! Our Second Hoop House's Garden Blessing will be held on June 11, 2025 at 5:00 at the Hoop House. Following the Garden Blessing, please join us at the Church Parish Hall for fellowship and feasting. Sign up to attend at the pantry, church office, or Old Well Hall.
Advent Health's Gardens of Hope Program focused this week on using trellises, raised beds, and row covers to maximize space and minimize diseases for their home garden space. Participants weeded the squash plants and spread mulch around the squash. Mulch was also placed around the tomatoes and pepper plants in the Hoop House.
Lots of ladders, a lift, and volunteer lads (oops, men) safely put some of the final touches on the Hoop House this week. That would mean the cover! A gentle breeze helped as the volunteers attached the cover. It truly has been a labor of love as the volunteers arrived early each morning full of energy and one could sense the camaraderie among them. You will not be disappointed on Wednesday at the Blessing of the Hoop House and Garden.
Speaking of blessings, our neighbors were able to benefit from the 11,000+ pounds of food from Manna this week. We received 330 dozen eggs, cases of chicken and bacon. Mini cartons of milk, cereal, produce, condiments, and snacks were also delivered.
We welcomed 131 families representing 443 individuals and nine new families. The nine new families represent a total of thirty-two family members. We also need one person once a month to pick up milk and one person to pick up some food at Sav-Mor.
On behalf of our Pantry Board, we express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous food and monetary donations to our pantry. Your donations will make a significant impact on the lives of those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity.
From The Lord’s Acre of Fletcher – There are small raised beds in front of the hoop house (and will be also in front of the new one) that had beautiful petunias in them last year. We would love someone to take on replanting some pretty flowers in those beds to add a splash of color as people come to the garden. If you're interested, let Doug Kearney know.
