Stewardship of Calvary's Land

In early 2019, Calvary had to make the tough decision to remove a stand of trees that had become a threat to our neighbors’ properties. At the same time, we realized that we needed a clearer vision of how we might steward the 20+ acres of land that comprise our grounds and churchyard. This process began with a community meeting, facilitated by Alison Arnold, Buncombe County Agricultural Extension Agent and a Master Gardener.

Using the results of this conversation, Calvary engaged Landscape Architect Mary Weber to put together a program for the management of our campus. The Buildings and Grounds committee reviewed several versions, and a proposed plan was presented at two community meetings — one virtual and the other in person — were held in late September and early October to solicit additional comments from parishioners.

You can view pdf of the final draft of the plan here.
