The prelude, by the American composer Seth Bingham (1882-1972), is a setting of another hymn not in our hymnal -- "Lead Us, O Father,” although other texts have been set to the tune. Mr. Bingham studied at Yale with some of the most famous names of his day-- Horatio Parker, Vincent D'Indy, and Alexandre Guilmant.
Our processional hymn is 607, "O God of every nation", a well known 19th century tune with 20th century words. Our Gospel hymn uses a paraphrase of Psalm 42: 1-7, and the wonderful 2 centuries old tune called "Martyrdom" (658).
During the offertory, Diane Crisp and Audy Walker will sing a duet: "Creation Will Be at Peace" -- a paraphrase of Isaiah 11: 6-9, by Anna Laura Page. They will also sing at the beginning of communion, the well known hymn, "What a friend we have in Jesus". Following is the favorite of many, "Dear Lord and Father of mankind", 652.
Closing, we will sing "O worship the King, all glorious above", 388, a sort of "chestnut" in the body of hymns!
The postlude is a Jonathan Reuss (contemporary American) arrangement of "Love divine, all loves excelling".
