Food & Formation in Advent: Journeying the Way of Love

In his sermon at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry reminded the royal couple and all of us that the Way of Jesus is the Way of Love. Since Bishop Curry’s sermon captured the world’s imagination, he and many partners across The Episcopal Church have come together to offer a set of suggestion for how we might adopt specific practices that embody the Way of Love.

For the season of Advent, Calvary will offer Journeying the Way of Love: four sessions that we will explore as we await the coming of Christ by moving through the first two chapters of the Gospel of Luke. Luke’s gospel provides a pattern for understanding how we can live the Way of Love as individuals, as families and friends, as a community, and out in the world. Each gathering will have elements that are accessible by children, youth, and adults.

  • Advent One - December 5: The Annunciation: Saying “Yes” to the Journey

  • Advent Two - December 12: Mary and Elizabeth: Journeying with Family and Friends

  • Advent Three - December 19: The Birth of John the Baptist: Journeying with Community

  • Advent Four - December 23: The Birth of Jesus: Journeying with the World

The first three sessions will be offered twice: once at 11:30 (following the weekly Healing Eucharist) and again at 6:45 (following dinner at 6:00.) The final session will take place after the Service of Lessons and Carols. If you plan to participate (or even if you can’t make it) please download this Way of Love Advent Calendar and join with Episcopalians everywhere as we engage in spiritual practices this season. Nursery care will be available, and we hope that families of all types will attend.
