Volunteers, Mayor Preston Blakley leading the Food Drive from the Fletcher Community, Thrivent, Scouts, Lion's Club Vision Screening Members, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Interns, and generous supporters from our area are the THANKS in THANSGIVING!  Because of your kindness by volunteering your time or monetary donations, we provided 229 neighbors with 3 1/2 days of food and a Thanksgiving Meal this past Saturday. These neighbors represent 826 family members and 17 new families.

Preparation for this distribution began earlier in the month working on logistics from picking up and handing out 220 turkeys and 10 pound bags of potatoes, storing shelf stable items, and coordination of 40+ volunteers. There's a saying...."It Takes a Village." In the writer's opinion...It was a perfect day with so many helping to reduce food insecurity in our community.

On Thursday afternoon at 4:00, hardy souls picked the last 73 pounds of collards in the Lord's Acre of Fletcher, our Garden. For data driven folks, we harvested 600 pounds of collards this year..... That's five more pounds than the amount of watermelons that were grown! Carrots, beets, and lettuce are thriving in the hoop house. Christ School finished mulching our garden beds. We'll stay in touch with developments of winter veggies in the hoop house.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, thank you to our volunteers and our area churches, civic groups, local merchants, and families for all you do to feed our community helping to reduce food insecurity.  We thank you and appreciate your food and monetary donations.
