Christians
have been gathering to worship for two millennia, and have been learning about
Christianity for almost as long. It crucial for Christians – and for
Episcopalians – to be instructed in and to grow in their faith outside of
actual worship. Much of the richness and tradition of our unique worship service
is lost without instruction:
Why
do we celebrate the Eucharist each week? Why does the service sound partly
Protestant and part Catholic? Where did the Prayer Book come from? Why do we
still read the Old Testament when as Christians we follow the teaching of the
New Testament?
Christian
Formation begins in childhood and never ceases, just as our faith journey
continues all our lives.
During
the school year,
Nursery – A fully-staffed nursery is available to
infants and toddlers from
Children’s Chapel – Held during the
Children Classes – Children learn their faith through
stories and creative expression, using a Biblical lectionary-based curriculum.
Youth Classes –
The youth engage in projects, group discussion and begin to verbalize their
faith.
Adult Classes – Many adults perceive "Sunday
School" as for children only, then realize their faith journeys are frozen
in adolescence. Christian Formation never ends! Adults bring their wealth
of life experience to class and find the voices of the Bible speak to them on an
entirely different and richer level. There are several classes, some year-round
and some seasonal – watch the bulletin and newsletter for details.
Adult Bible Study – Meets in the library at
Burning Questions – Meet with
the rector and speak your mind! We discuss issues or questions or concerns
about life, the Church, God, or whatever. All are welcome.
Food & Formation: Wednesday Evening Offerings
– A meal and special programs are offered at various times throughout the year
for folks of all ages.
Lenten / Advent Adult Offerings
– Guest speakers offer a series of discussions tied to the Church Year. Past
offerings have included series on healing, prayer, and grace.
Intergenerational Gatherings
– Frequently scheduled around feast days, these gatherings involve hands-on
experiential learning for folks aged 3-99.
Newcomer’s Classes – A series of four classes geared
toward visitors and newcomers so they can learn more about
Inquirer’s Classes – A series of classes offered for
those who wish to explore what it means to be a Christian in the Episcopal
Church, and/or to explore the process of confirmation. For people aged 16 and
older.

This week of summer fun and formation is an extremely popular program at
Christian Formation Volunteer Opportunities
– Would you like to teach? It’s good to switch positions and be the leader
instead of the learner. We are always looking for folks to lead children, youth
or adult classes. Would you like to play with the babies? Many hands make light
work in the nursery – and it wouldn’t have to be every Sunday. Contact
