Christmas Eve Eucharist Service 2015

Updates and News – 18 December 2015

A celebration of Dr. Claude Stewart’s life will be held on Monday, December 21 at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary. There will be a reception afterwards where parishioners and can greet his family.

In other sad parish news, Nathaniel Witaszek, son of Linda Wozniak, also died this week in Virginia Beach. He grew up in the parish and there are many who remember him well. His funeral will be held on Monday, December 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary.

And long-time parishioner, Acolyte Master and Altar Guild Director Shirley Bice died on Thursday, December 17. Arrangements for her funeral have not been announced at this time.

And then there’s Christmas! With so much upheaval in our parish, the decision was made to have just one Christmas Eve service, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 24. The musical prelude will begin at 5:00 p.m. There will be overflow seating so that everyone can be accommodated. And of course there will  be our traditional Christmas Day service on December 25 at 10:30 a.m. if you are looking for a quieter time to worship.

It’s good that we have these times when we can gather together to offer and accept support. Please join us. If you have questions or concerns, please call the Parish Office at 684-6266.

Sad News – 14 December 2015

Dear Friends and Parishioners of Calvary Church,
It is with the deep sadness that I write to tell you that Dr. Claude Stewart died yesterday afternoon while on a hike in the mountains. His morning sermon was brief and inspired as he spoke of our life in the “Meanwhile” while we wait for the “Not yet” of God’s Kingdom. He died doing what he loved, in our beautiful mountains which were a joy to him, and now celebrates life in God’s welcoming presence.
We will miss Claude greatly; his gracious spirit, wisdom and grace blessed us during the four and a half months he served as Interim Rector of Calvary. Please be assured that the Vestry and I will do our utmost to ensure that ministry and worship at Calvary will continue as planned as we await the appointment of a new rector. Let us pray for one another as we continue in the “Meanwhile” and, in a few days, celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.
Blessings,
Liz
